ANNOUNCEMENT: LARA JADE VS JOEY L – Coming December 1st

You wouldn’t believe how great it feels to be finally typing this. It’s been almost exactly 2 years since I launched my last tutorial DVD, Sessions with Joey L. Because of it’s huge reception and positive feedback from photographers around the entire 'phreaken world, I decided way back then to create another. It’s taken all that time since then to get to this point. May I announce- "Photographer Shoot-Off, Lara Jade VS Joey L". More after the jump-

A New Look for JoeyL.com

I'm very proud and excited to announce my new website and blog, designed and engineered by the very talented Ross and Kostya at Flosites. Although the overall feel is the same, I wanted to bring out the neutral earth tones in my images, so I chose a warm ash gray background and a simple font color scheme to match. A lot of my photo series have narrative and text to go along with the images, but I didn't want to distract the images. I got inspiration from a lot of fine art books, where images go along with minimal text to still tell a story.

Release Me: The Model Release App

Traditionally, a model release has been getting your subject to sign a paper form. I say nay, I’m never going to carry those around again. My friends and I have developed an app for iPhone and iPad called "Release Me". Your subject can read through the legal details on the phone, and simply sign the screen.

Lighting from a Sketch

I am often asked about how much I am involved creatively in my photo shoots. Which of the ideas come from me, and which come from art director’s or creatives working for the client

? How much input does the photographer have?

Creating a Photography Portfolio

I have been working as a professional photographer for the past five years. It started off as a hobby when I was a kid, and grew into what I do today. If you count the pictures I took when I was very young and first experimenting with photography, then I’ve easily done thousands of shoots by now. However, when I show my work to advertising clients to get jobs, all those years of pressing buttons and pushing pixels has led to only small selection of images that I choose to display.

The Inspiration Blog – Cohesive Photographers

Okay, I admit it- I blog mostly about myself. I don't think I'm narcissistic (although I suppose most narcissistic people are in denial), I just figure if you wanted to read about someone else, you'd go to their blogs, right? ;-) The truth is, I'm a super-fan of other people's photography.

How to Find a Guide in a Foreign Country / For Traveling Photographers

I am frequently asked how I go about finding reliable guides to help me complete my photography projects in the countries that I’ve visited. It took me a long time to learn what to look for and what not to look for. I’ll admit that I’ve made a few mistakes and been in bad situations when I depended too heavily on the wrong people. However, when you have the right people on your side it can make all the difference.

“House of Anubis” Nickelodeon Shoot / Behind the Scenes Info

I flew to Liverpool, UK to photograph the advertisements and press shots for a new kids TV show called <a href="http://www.nick.com/shows/house-of-anubis/ "target="_blank">House of Anubis. I've always been impressed with the art direction (David Hamed) of Nickelodeon photo shoots. Even though they are shows for younger audiences, they really take a really in-depth approach to everything visual they do and put a lot of effort into production value. Working with these kind of creative people is a dream for any photographer. This is one of my favorite shots from my shoot...
