Yeah I can take pictures, but I can bust a rhyme too. I don’t even know how I should begin this blog… except… that… My alter ego is born. Okay, it’s true- I have started a gangster rap crew which refuses to rap about anything non photo-related. Actually, we can’t rap about anything else simply because we don’t know about anything else.
Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you… The Photo Club.
The Photo Club is the brainchild of myself and my friend from highschool/travel companion/assistant/lyrical genius Willem Isbrucker. It all started out as a joke, and it still remains a joke, except we seem to have gotten real serious about the production. We recorded 5 tracks in our friend Kent Sheehey‘s studio, two of which are complete and out now on our myspace. Then our other friend Eric Jackson Wood made the myspace. Oh, and we even have filmed two music videos at this point with our good travel-bud Cale Glendening.
I may be so bold as to say I am the greatest photographing-rapper alive. (Well, perhaps the only one.)
The first video was released today. It’s called Nikon Girl, an old school track about a guy who shoots Canon and falls in love with a girl who uses Nikon… But they could never be. If you are into it, then check out our next single “Get Flashed” on myspace. If you are sick of going to myspace and listening to these, can’t figure out how to rip them, and want these for your iPod-or-whatever, it’s going to cost you!!! These two tracks are also for sale for 99 cents a pop. (Mainly because I want to say I’ve made money from rapping in my life, even if it’s $1.)
The Contest
So what does this all mean? Well, I should have a contest so I can trick people into listening to my mindless rap music over and over again to find clues. Anyone who can answer the below questions will be placed in a random raffle, and the winner will get a free copy of my tutorial Sessions With Joey L. The answers can be found in the tracks themselves, or my twitter backlogs. Be warned- some are tricky and are not as obvious as they seem.
Send your answers to joey@joeyL.com with the subject “Photo Club Contest”
1) Where was the video for Nikon Girl filmed?
2) In “Get Flashed”, which photographer does Joey outrageously claim not to have shit on him, but whom he still respects?
3) In which country were the Photo Club vocal tracks recorded?
Anyway, I am glad to launch this next chapter in my life, and add another title to the list of things I do… I am ready for all the people who are going to write me about howd steamed they are that I started rapping about Photography instead of just laying low, shutting my mouth and taking photos.
Joey L, proud member of Photo Club
